WWII German U-Boat Leather Jacket Coat Uniform Submarine Buttons. This Jacket along with many other War artifacts were sent home from WWII England by Col. Wright who was an Army Air Forces Dr/Surgeon. Wright traded a German U-Boat POW for the jacket. Jacket is heavily used with some Wartime repairs to leather.
Two of the front buttons fell off, I found one but not the other. One of the small collar tab buttons is missing. All the buttons match except the back of one has a different WWII German maker(Assman), its the one I photoed showing the Wartime repair.
Button was probably ripped off. Somewhere in its long ago history there was an attempt to restore. The wool lining and sleeve lining and some of the inside leather seem to be replaced.
The restoration may have happened in England before it was sent home at the end of the War. Whoever was restoring it was trying to leave the outside as original as found on the German sailor. I placed the Jacket on a private Military site for evaluation and all agreed its a good period Kriegsmarine jacket.
These jackets are super rare and would be a great restoration project. This jacket oozes with history one of the military collectors that evaluated it said. Im a 25 year collector of WWII but this is out of my ability. The item "WWII German U-Boat Leather Jacket Coat Uniform Submarine Buttons Kriegsmarine" is in sale since Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
