WWII German Navy Kriegsmarine Dagger WW2 senior petty Naval Knife 1938

WWII German Navy Kriegsmarine Dagger WW2 senior petty Naval Knife 1938. Here is a beautiful example of a Kriegsmarine senior petty officers dagger. The scabbard is an absolute beauty. It is the pebbled variety and has 100 percent of the gild as well as the original lacquer finish.

The scabbard shows virtually no signs of carrying time. In fact, the carrying rings still have their original gilt finish, which is a good sign this dagger was not carried. The carrying bands are the high-off-the-surface WKC variety featuring finely rendered oak leaves and acorns. The eyelets are the triple serrated type showing no wear. Two dome-head brass screws retain the throat.

The grip is of wood covered with an off-white celluloid covering and the twisted grip wires cling tightly to it. The blade of this example is the unetched variety. This plain blade is equipped with double fullers and has highest quality nickel-plated surfaces retaining its needlelike tip. Often, when we see blades with no etching, it is a sign that the dagger was ordered especially by the navy for use by higher-ranking petty officers. Daggers were issued to them; they didnt have to pay for them as officers did.

This was the reason the navy ordered them with plain blades in order to save funds. However, with this one they made an exception and ordered one with the more expensive pebbled scabbard. This blade is easily in stone-mint condition.

It is buffered by an in-place, off-red felt washer. The original silver-colored portepee is tied in the manner that no collector today can duplicate and it is in excellent plus condition. These unetched daggers actually are rarer than the etched ones particularly when specially ordered as this one pretty obviously was. But, because it still falls into the unetched variety the dagger bears no makers logo and this is positively correct.

Here before you is not only a historically important specimen of NS Germanys most handsome dress dagger, but is quite rare and original as well.
