The body of the cap is made from old white cotton that shows signs of rust and humidity staining from deep within the bowels of the Iron Coffin; a black wool cap band, genuine old leather chin strap, and a beautifully aged lambskin leather sweat band. The insignia and visor are made from hand embroidered gold wire bullion with an aged patina. Unlike cheap reproductions the gold bullion on this cap has been manufactured to the correct spec and colour. Their caps were highly sought after by U-boat commanders.
Inserted inside cap label is an aged copy of Kapitänleutnant Erich Topp's original wartime signature. The cap also comes fitted with a U-552 brass cap badge of the boat's'Red Devil' emblem and and will come complete with aged. The Red Devil badge has been hand made by me using a jewellery saw and bench peg, and is an exact copy of an original U-552 wartime badge. A perfect cap for your museum and Kriegsmarine collection. The cap you see in the pictures is the cap you will get.

If you want a U-boat cap made for a specific U-boat commander please feel free to get in touch.U-552 was one of the legendary U-boats of World War Two. She was laid down on 1 December 1939 at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg as yard number 528 and launched on 14 September 1940 she went into service on Dec 4th. Topp was among the U-boat arm's most successful commanders. Within 16 months he was decorated with the Knight's Cross, Oak Leaves and Swords.
U-552, the boat with the Roter Teufel (Red Devil) emblem painted on the side of the conning tower, was probably photographed more by war reporters than any other U-boat.
