Made with the RARE Luminous Dial, Stowa. Was only contracted to make 2000 of these between 1944 and 1945! Stowa is a German luxury watchmaker founded by Walter Storz in 1927, and is based in Engelsbrand, Germany. The name is a portmanteau of the founder's name, Storz Walter. From 1996 until 2021, STOWA was owned by Jörg Schauer, who also owns the Schauer watch brand and the DUROWE watch movement brand.
On July 1, 2021, Stowa became part of Tempus Arte GmbH & Co. KG, which also owns Uhrenmanufaktur Lang & Heyne Dresden, UhrenWerke-Dresden (UWD), as well as the Munich-based company Leinfelder Uhren München. Made with a Unitas 2813 Movement (same movement used in the Luftwaffe B-Uhr), two different versions were made (non-luminous and luminous).
Only 2288 units in total were made, 288 with the enamel dial; and 2000 with the luminous dial. Made with a 57mm nickel case, this Stowa Kriegsmarine Navigation Watch is in SUPERB functioning condition! Used during the war, there are some marks and wear due to the age, but nothing that detracts. The crystal is the original, however being 80 years old there are some slight marks and wear due to the age. The Phosphorous Luminescent dial is near MINT, with no marks, scratches, or wear.
Features a prominent " KM " indicating Kriegsmarine. Stowa was only contracted to make 2000 of these, so they are quite rare in this condition. Post-war, the original back cover was replaced with a piece of glass to show the intricacies of the movement. Hough it is 100% functional, it has not been serviced in 30 years, so I would suggest getting it cleaned for daily use. N AMAZING item for any collection or display!
