WW2 German Kriegsmarine Gasmaske Blechbüchse M38 GAS MASK CANISTER SUPERB
Finished in its original naval shipboard gray overpaint, t hese masks were issued to all personnel throughout the war. With the development of poisonous gases used as offensive weapons throughout WW1, appropriate defensive gas masks had to be developed. The early M1915 and 1917 gas masks evolved into the M24, and eventually into the M30 and M38 versions. All German Army and Air Force personnel were issued a gas mask, carry canister and accessories, and were required to have them ready at all times. These naval-painted examples are much harder to find than standard Heer-issued canisters and have long been sought after by collectors of German naval field equipment.
Made of steel and aluminum, this Kriegsmarine Gas Mask Canister is in VERY NICE used condition! Some slight marks and wear, due to the age, however it still retains approximately 95% of its original wartime-applied gray paint!
The inside of the lid is clearly stamped ggm. It still retains the original aluminum insert, which is often missing on these, and the square box inside the lid includes one spare lens set. The hinge and latch both function perfectly! Would make a PERFECT addition to any serious Kriegsmarine or German field gear collection or display!
