C/1A Naval Gun Sight Targeting Binoculars! Manufactured by Carl Zeiss, Jena (blc), and designed for use on. Various Cruisers, Destroyers, Battleships, and Coastal Units that were equipped with the 10.5cm Naval Gun! 1 of only 150 examples ever made, these were captured at the end of the war.
C/1A (Binokulares Zielfernrohr mit Schrägem Einblick) was a highly specialized optical aiming device developed for Kriegsmarine warships, including destroyers, cruisers, and coastal defense units. Featuring 45-degree inclined eyepieces, this system allowed operators to maintain a stable and ergonomic viewing position while tracking both sea and land targets under combat conditions. These optics were engineered to withstand extreme vibration from naval gun recoil and harsh maritime environments, representing a high point in wartime German optical engineering. This model features dual magnification (5x and 10x), adjustable interpupillary distance, and selectable reticles for precise targeting.Production of this variant is believed to have been extremely limited, with approximately 150 examples manufactured, making it one of the rarest Kriegsmarine optical systems encountered today. The gunsight is characterized by its high optical performance, especially when used in twilight and at night, and features bellows-shaped, rotatable and internally ventilated rubber eye cups. They are also designed with an extension on the sides as protection against side light from entering. With 70mm lenses, the magnification is 5x14° / 10x7°, which indicates the field of view at 5x magnification is 14° = 245m / 1000m... And at 10x magnification, it is 7° = 122m / 1000m.
It has a an elaborate wide-angle eyepiece construction, with eyepiece lenses that are mounted on the inside in a resilient metal housing. When focusing, there are two separate knobs that are turned left or right, thus adjusting the focus on each lens. Also features a wheel for adjusting the eye width, with the eye relief indicated in millimeters on a central scale. Made of solid brass, aluminum, and steel by " blc " (Carl Zeiss Militarabteilung, Jena), and dating around 1944, this 5x70 / 10x70 power Kriegsmarine Gunsight Targeting Binocular is in VERY NICE used condition! Most of the original paint is gone, however it only features minor marks, scratches, and wear due to the age.
Hough these are mainly complete, they will need a cleaning as there is some snowflaking on the objective lenses (common). All the adjustments are currently FUNCTIONAL, however a few are VERY stiff, and will need to be lubricated for functionality. The head pad is present, but has deteriorated over time (cracks, and a section missing).
Eye cups are also original. The optics features a variety of options including " Augenabstand " (Pupillary Distance) which are activated by turning the knob at the bottom right. The two levers placed at the ends of the eyepieces independently activate the insertion of the two relative reticles. On the upper part of the structure there are two levers useful for inserting the filters, " Farbglas Wechsel ", " T " (Tag = day - yellow filter) and " N " (Nacht = night).
The flip-up Rain/Sun shields are present, which is VERY rare, as these are usually missing. In addition, they also appear to be a LATE-WAR style that I have never seen before. Sadly, the original data plate has been lost over time. Features a large " T " engraved, indicating that the lenses have an anti-reflective coating. The internal Prisms are PERFECT, with NO chips, cracks, or damage! There is some haze and blurriness when looking through. Probably still usable as-is, but I would suggest getting the objective lenses cleaned up and rectified.
I have shown how the view is through the right side (left side is blurrier, due to the snow-flaking). Though these definitely a cleaning and lubrication, they are still a BEAUTIFULLY. Engineered optical gunsight with outstanding performance! I have shown this EXACT type in use in the last image.Make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
