This listing is for an original World War Two German Kriegsmarine presentation ashtray, made of 835 silver and heavy cut crystal by the well-known silversmith Wilhelm Binder (WTB), Schwäbisch Gmünd. The silver rim is engraved in German. "ADMIRAL UND STAB ADMIRAL NORWEGEN 9.6.1942".
("Admiral and Staff, Admiral Norway, 9 June 1942"). "Admiral Norwegen" was the Commanding Admiral of German naval forces in Norway, so this is a dated staff presentation piece from the Kriegsmarine command in occupied Norway, not a postwar fantasy item. The silver is hallmarked with the German crescent moon & crown national mark, "835" fineness, and the WTB / WB maker's mark used by Wilhelm Binder. Original WW2 German Kriegsmarine (Navy) ashtray - not a reproduction.
Engraved dedication: "ADMIRAL UND STAB ADMIRAL NORWEGEN 9.6.1942". Maker: Wilhelm Binder, Schwäbisch Gmünd - marked with crescent & crown / 835 / WTB. Material: Solid 835 silver ring over heavy, domed cut crystal base. Classic Binder design with a single silver cigarette / cigar rest. Strong historical connection to Kriegsmarine command in Norway, 1942.
Ideal for advanced collectors of German navy / U-boat / Third Reich militaria, presentation silver or vintage ashtrays. Please check out our other WW1 items for more original military collectibles. This is an authentic wartime piece and shows age and use. Crystal: There is a long, visible crack running across the crystal body from edge to edge. The crack is stable but clearly seen from top and bottom. There are also a few small edge nicks and light surface marks from use. The engraving remains crisp and fully legible all the way around.
The single rest is firmly attached. No modern repairs or polishing - left in as-found, untouched condition so the new owner can decide how much to clean it. Please examine all photos carefully - they are part of the description.
If you need any additional angles or close-ups, just ask. "Admiral Norwegen" was the Kriegsmarine command responsible for German naval operations in Norwegian waters during WWII. The date 9 June 1942 falls in the middle of intense convoy and coastal-defence activity in Norway. The wording "Admiral und Stab" ("Admiral and staff") is a classic formula for staff gifts to visiting or departing officers, or for commemorating a specific event.
This ashtray combines quality German silver and crystal with a named, dated wartime dedication, making it a rare survivor of Kriegsmarine staff life in Norway. We pack fragile items very carefully to protect both the silver and the crystal. Feel free to message with any questions.
