Authenticated WW2 German U-Boat Clasp in Bronze Marked Entwurf Peekhaus Schwerin This came from a resident of a retirement center in 1982. Her husband was on a U boat that was sunk in the Gulf of Mexico, he was put in an Internment and cap stayed in Florida after the war until he died.

It's made of die struck zinc, as were all of these late war awards, and retains most of its original factory applied bronze finish, with vibrant highlights.

All of the original detail is intact. The reverse of this badge shows only light age. It's marked with the name of the designer (Peekhaus) and also maker marked by the firm of Schwerin in Berlin, in raised lettering. The stamped steel fluted pin functions perfectly. The round wire catch is neatly crimped in place, and the hinge is integral to the badge.

This U-Boat Clasp in Bronze is entirely textbook, all-original, and unrepaired, and would be very difficult to upgrade. The condition rates as excellent. Historical Description: The U-Boat Badge (U-Boots-Kriegsabzeichen) was instituted on October 13, 1939 by Kriegsmarine leader Grossadmiral Erich Raeder, to recognize the combat achievements of the extremely dangerous and all-volunteer U-Boat service.

The design of the badge features a German submarine surrounded by a wreath, surmounted by a German national eagle and swtika emblem. The original design for the badge, submitted by Kriegsmarine sailors, was refined by Wilhelm Ernst Peekhaus. To earn this badge, submarine sailors had to participate in a minimum of two missions against the enemy.

If a sailor was wounded on a single mission, he could receive the U-Boat Badge. The badge could be worn both on and off duty.
