Anchor is a typical motif of the WWII German Navy. The material is solid yellow metal (brass or bronze). Ring size is 12 (US) (inner diameter approx 21.5mm). Stamps inside: the abbreviation U-454 stands for U-boot 454 (navy ww2 german u-boat #454). "Eiswolf" (translates as polar wolf) is the name of Wolfpack (u-boat war convoy). The wolfpack (u-boat convoy) was a convoy attack tactic employed in the Second World War. It was used principally by the U-boats of the Kriegsmarine during the Battle of the Atlantic. The idea of a co-ordinated submarine attack on convoys had been proposed during the First World War but had no success. In the Atlantic during the Second World War the Germans had considerable successes with their wolfpack attacks but were ultimately defeated by the Allies.
