Kriegsmarine Issue Marking: Stamped "M3944" on the bottom plate (German Navy inventory registry). Sub-Dials: Top 56-Hour Power Reserve Indicator (Up/Down dial) & Lower Running Seconds sub-dial. Escapement: Traditional Spring Detent (Earnshaw) escapement with fusee-and-chain transmission. Case & Hardware: Multi-tier fitted wooden transport box with brass gimbals, locking lever, glass viewing aperture, and top metal plaque.
Mainspring & Fusee Chain: Intact and under tension. The winding mechanism turns to a solid stop as intended. Escapement & Geartrain: The clock is currently partially wound. When given a smooth horizontal rotary impulse, the balance wheel swings and the seconds hand steps forward for approximately 20-30 seconds before stalling. Diagnosis: The movement requires a routine horological Clean, Oil, and Adjust (COA) service. The 80-year-old internal lubricants have congealed, preventing the balance wheel from sustaining continuous momentum. Cosmetic Condition: Excellent vintage condition for its age. The silvered dial, hands, gimbal ring, brass bowl, and wooden case show light age-appropriate patina and wear without modern tampering.
The unit will be double-boxed with thick dense foam padding to prevent shock during transit. Please view all high-resolution photos carefully for exact cosmetic details. Feel free to reach out with any technical questions!
