MUST read description for a fascinating detail. None of the documents are included in this sale. The Prinz Eugen was part of the famous Bismark sortie with the raiders and was involved in sinking the flagship Hood, the pride of the British Navy in 1941.

Unfortunately it had engine problems right after the German crew left in May 1946. Subsequent problem after problem occured as it was moved to the West Coast and berthed in San Francisco.

This would be known as Operation Crossroads. Ix-300 Prinz Eugen was involved in both the airborne (Able) and first underwater (Baker) tests July 1-25, 1946. It was towed to the Kwajalein Atoll when it capsized and sank in December 1945. This original German buckle was sourced by and belonged to the estate of Chief Engineer Cmdr W.

Handley, who was third in command of the IX-300 Prinz Eugen through this time period of December 1945 through October 1945. It is part of a collection of documents, direct from the estate that are NOT included in this sale.
