German Ww2 Kriegsmarine U-boat Commanders 8 X 60 Zeiss Blc Benutzer Binoculars

GERMAN WW2 KRIEGSMARINE U-BOAT COMMANDERS 8 X 60 ZEISS BLC BENUTZER BINOCULARS. From my limited research I have found the following: This listing is for as found, a pair of "Rare" German WW2 U-Boat Commander binoculars, also called "Commanders" glasses or (Kommandantenglas) also referred to as " The Fat One". These 8 X 60 binoculars were primarily for the Captain or other Commanding Officers to use when the U-boat surfaced. The outer paint is a textured black over a patina green that is visible from the everyday wear that can be seen in my photos. It looks like the construction is Brass, steel and alloy.

Made by "blc" (Carl Zeiss Militarabteilung, Jena) Rain cover is marked (Benutzer, 11944) and on the right side of the frame is marked "8 X 60, 49256, blc". The optics seem to be pretty clear on far away objects (not so much on something close). There are two screw fitting that you can turn by hand to help focus the binoculars. The eye cups are original (looks to be aluminum) right side bottom hinge attachment looks broken and repaired-see photo 7.

The eye cups are threaded and may have taken another set of fine focus lenses. The rain cover is in good condition and rubber cord still pliable. There is some dust on the inside of the lenses and probably could use a servicing more than I know about lenses. Each lens does adjust with the screw adjustment.

The center bar that allows the binoculars adjust to a persons eye diameter and work with a little pressure. There is a large center locking screw and a locking nut with two holes in it at the back end. I'm sure that controls the opening and closing the distance between your eyes. I see a couple of light scratches on the left eye lens and one on the right eye lens. The front lenses look good. The front of the binoculars measure approx. 9 3/8" across about 8 1/2 " tall and 3 at widest paint. And rear ones, about 1 1/8 in diam. Please do not pay till you receive my invoice.
